Family Therapy
Family
Family Therapy
All families go through difficult times and often these challenges can be overwhelming. Our family therapists can help you navigate through some of these complexities to relieve stressors and build useful connection with family members.
Parenting can be a challenging and sometimes stressful experience and parent-child relationships can become strained, particularly when transitioning into blended family setups, where separation or divorce and a new relationship adds to the complexity. Children often feel torn and struggle with their loyalty or attachment to birth parents and resist or reject a new partner. That can demand a level of forbearance or restraint that might be difficult to develop given competing demands. A wise, experienced professional like one of our family psychologists can provide insight and wisdom to encourage patience and set common goals for the family to work together to achieve.

Melbourne Family Therapy
Adjusting to being a new parent and to the ever-changing developmental needs of your child as they grow into adulthood is a demanding and tiring task. Many families struggles from not having enough support to help parents navigate these problems.
Many parents can be overworked, under-resourced and might not have time and space to feel heard. This often leads to parents expressing uncertainty or a lack of confidence in how to manage some of the challenges. Parents can seek counselling to address their own areas of concern and the factors that may be impacting upon their parenting capacity or parenting experience.
A parent may have experienced untreated severe trauma which has led to an addiction or other harmful behaviours. Abused children who may have endured years of emotional and psychological abuse, may exhibit many of the same behaviours as the abusive parent which can then pass on to future generations.
These unhealthy behaviours can then become a “normal” way of raising children within the family.
MasterMind Psychology's family psychologists employ a range of different techniques depending on their particular practice background, the presenting issues and the family’s concerns. At times they might use a combination of techniques. All the therapies used at MasterMind Psychology have a sound theoretical basis and are supported by the evidence of research.
